Industrial Cryogenic Technologies, LLC

Industrial Cryogenic Technologies, LLC (ICT) was established to market, sell and service cryogenic products, including the ICEFLY® cryogen delivery system under license from Air Products, to the industrial marketplace for both product development and commercial operations. ICT is a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Research Systems (ARS) and collocated at their 17,000-sq. ft. headquarters in Macungie, PA. ARS was founded in 1986 and has grown to become a world-class manufacturer and supplier of cryogenic equipment. With engineering and manufacturing skills in electronics, welding, controls, design, assembly, and testing down to 4°K, ARS is able to provide engineering and manufacturing support for ICT, as well as global sales and service capabilities.

Experience

To build on Air Products’ 15+ years of product design engineering and applications experience applying the ICEFLY® cryogen delivery technology as an alternative to the use of coolants in the field of metals machining, ARS president Ravi Bains has retained Richard “Rick” Knopf to lead Business Development at ICT. As cofounder and former owner of Midatlantic CNC located in Lebanon, NJ, Rick served as Vice President, Engineering, Sales and Service since 1987. Prior to growing the MidAtlantic business in the US, Rick was employed by Maruka USA in Pine Brook, NJ as Sales and Service Manager for Maruka’s CNC machine tool products. During the course of his 33 years in the machine tool industry, Rick developed extensive experience with many machine tool builders, tooling companies, third party accessory suppliers and applications development with end users. With the support of Air Products’ extensive cryogenic machining applications expertise with numerous materials, Rick is well qualified to discuss the potential benefits of the ICEFLY® cryogen delivery system for your machining needs.

Strategic Relationships:

Air Products (www.airproducts.com)

Air Products is a recognized leader in cryogenic technology applications with a long history of innovative technology development to meet customer needs. The ICEFLY® cryogen delivery system is one example. Developed initially to ensure a saturated flow of liquid nitrogen for metals machining, the technology has since found other applications where precise control of flow and temperature of a cryogen are beneficial to customer operations. To advance the commercialization and application of ICEFLY® cryogen delivery technology, Air Products has collaborated with Advanced Research Systems through a License Agreement including rights to intellectual property and applications know-how.

Air Products provides atmospheric, process and specialty gases; performance materials; equipment; and technology. For over 70 years, the company has enabled customers to become more productive, energy efficient and sustainable. Recognized as one of the world’s most innovative companies by both Thomson Reuters and Forbes magazine, and with more than 21,000 employees in over 50 countries, Air Products supplies effective solutions to the energy, environment and emerging markets. These include semiconductor materials, refinery hydrogen, coal gasification, natural gas liquefaction, and advanced coatings and adhesives. In fiscal 2013, Air Products had sales of $10.2 billion. Dimensional Control Inc. (www.spidercool.com)

ICT is pleased to announce collaboration with Dimensional Control, Inc., located in South Windsor, CT.
Dimensional Control is a technology leader in the field of automatic coolant nozzle systems for machining centers. They have designed an automatic coolant nozzle system called Cryo SpiderCool which operates at cryogenic temperatures in conjunction with the ICEFLY® Cryogen Delivery System to supply automated delivery of cryogenic liquid nitrogen or low temperature gaseous nitrogen to the cooling applications.

Cryo SpiderCool memorizes where cryogenic nitrogen is aimed on each tool, then adjusts automatically while the machine is running so the coolant stream is aligned to the spindle centerline.
Cryo SpiderCool consists of:

  • Nozzle assembly
  • Control unit
  • Remote adjustment knob, cabling, and mounting hardware
  • A closed loop servo motor which automates the coolant stream
